Cookie molds were traditionally used to tell stories visually when most people were unable to read or write. They celebrate weddings, births, victories, and holidays. Each mold is sold individually and comes with a recipe book "Too Pretty to Eat" published by House on the Hill.
House on the Hill molds are made in Kentucky of resin and wood composite and individually hand-cast and hand-finished. They are miniature works of art. Most of the molds are replicas of antique carvings, some dating as far back as the 1600’s. Since the original carvings had imperfections such as surface cracks and worm holes, the replicas will often mimic these characteristics. These are not flaws; they add a sense of authenticity and charm.
Molds may be used for baking springerle-style cookies or for crafts such as ornaments and papercasting.
